Cervical cancer vaccine
Dr Shaibya Saldanha explains that the vaccine is actually a HPV vaccine, which is a leading cause of cervical cancer. The vaccine does not eliminate your chances of getting cervical cancer, but reduces it. Dr Shaiya also explains that the injection is expensive in India and needs to be taken 6-12 months before a woman starts sexual activity.
As a conclusion, she emphasises that the best way of detecting and preventing cervical cancer is a pap smear.
